7mesh is leading a shift away from harmful PFAS by adopting next-generation, PFAS-free fabric technologies like GORE-TEX ePE to create high-performance, sustainable apparel.
The time we spend in nature tells us that nothing stays the same for long. The texture of the turn, the drumbeat of our feet on the trail. It’s never the same line. Likewise, for the fabrics we use to make our apparel, it’s never the same technology.
Keep reading to discover how 7mesh is playing its part to revolutionize the apparel industry with a move firmly away from PFAS and the past, and our dedication to utilizing effective, responsible water repellent fabric treatments.

PFAS is a problem
Pick an industry, and it probably used PFAS in the past. In our world, the outdoor sector has long relied on per - and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) - a family of synthetic chemicals - to provide reliable weatherproof protection on jackets, pants, and more.
PFAS are highly effective at keeping you dry and immensely resilient, but they come with significant downsides. One of the most glaring problems with PFAS is their environmental persistence.
We now know that they don't break down easily and can contaminate water, soil, and air for decades. Combined with their unfortunate tendency to bioaccumulate in humans and wildlife and spread far beyond their original application, there's a reason these synthetic compounds, these 'forever chemicals', have fallen out of favour.

7mesh and PFAS
When we released our first PFAS-free collection, WTV in 2022, our Airmap series in the fall of 2023 and our Mission Jacket the following year, we signalled our early intentions to innovate beyond forever chemicals. These products represented our first moves towards a future free of PFAS, highly technical garments that didn’t come with a hidden cost to the health of our planet.
Since then, we’ve continued to evolve our range, of which the Guardian range is a great example. As of 2025, we’re proud to say that all inline 7mesh products are 100% free of PFAS.

The Guardian Apex and Air benefit from next-generation GORE‑TEX ePE technology. Building on its light, thin and strong membrane, ePE is PFAS-free while also boasting a reduced carbon footprint. Importantly, GORE‑TEX ePE technology is proven to perform for the life of the garment. It’s guaranteed to keep you dry, windproof and highly breathable.
In short, it’s the technology the world needs now and one we’re proud to engineer into our Guardian line.
