The key to its success, I think, is how the thinner pad doesn’t bunch up or wriggle, and also doesn’t need a ‘perfect’ position on the ischium (bum bones) like a road chamois.

Went up a trouser size
Tend to full between a S and M with 7mesh bottoms. Trousers fit me well in size S but found size M in these briefs were more comfortable. Great for hot days or rides with lots of hike a bikes. Also dry quick overnight which is an added bonus for multi day rides.
